Which file formats can the Mesh Analyzer inspect?

The analyzer supports STL, OBJ, and 3MF mesh files. STEP files are not accepted directly because they contain CAD geometry and must first be converted or tessellated into a mesh format.

What information does the analyzer calculate?

Depending on the model, it can report dimensions, bounding box, vertex count, triangle count, surface area, enclosed volume, connected components, open boundary edges, degenerate triangles, and manifold-related issues.

What is a watertight mesh?

A watertight mesh forms a completely closed surface without holes or open boundary edges. Watertight geometry is usually required for reliable volume calculation and is preferred for 3D printing.

What does non-manifold geometry mean?

Non-manifold geometry contains edges or vertices arranged in a way that does not describe a clean physical surface. Examples include an edge shared by more than two faces, internal faces, or disconnected surfaces touching at a single point.

Why might the calculated volume be inaccurate?

Reliable volume calculation requires a closed, consistently oriented mesh. Holes, flipped triangles, self-intersections, overlapping shells, or non-manifold geometry can produce incorrect or meaningless volume results.

Does the analyzer modify my model?

No. The tool reads and evaluates the mesh but does not alter the original file.

Is my 3D model uploaded?

No. The file is analyzed locally in your browser and does not need to be uploaded to a server.
