What information is lost when converting 3MF to STL?
STL generally preserves only triangular surface geometry. Explicit units, colors, materials, textures, object names, component relationships, thumbnails, and print settings may be lost.
Can a 3MF file contain multiple objects?
Yes. A 3MF package can contain multiple objects, components, and instances. The converter can combine them into one STL or export available objects separately, depending on the selected option.
Will the model scale be preserved?
The converter can apply the unit stored in the 3MF file to preserve the intended dimensions. The resulting STL does not store that unit, so downstream software must interpret the coordinates correctly.
Should I choose binary or ASCII STL?
Binary STL is usually much smaller and faster to load. ASCII STL is human-readable but can become very large and offers no geometry advantage.
Will conversion repair the model?
No. The converter transfers the available mesh geometry but does not guarantee that holes, self-intersections, flipped faces, or non-manifold geometry are repaired.
Why can colors disappear after conversion?
Standard STL does not provide a reliable, portable way to store colors or materials. These properties are therefore normally discarded.
